About Erik Eliel

Erik Eliel, founder and president of Radar Training International, has been involved in aviation since 1979. His earliest years as a professional aviator were as an Air Force pilot flying the T-38, C-141, and the U-2. His interest with radar began in 1991 while flying airlift and transport missions to Europe, Africa, South America, and the Middle East. In 1997, Erik was selected to join the cadre of instructors at the Air Force Advanced Instrument School in San Antonio, Texas, teaching advanced instrument concepts to pilots representing all branches of the DOD, NASA, and Federal Law Enforcement agencies. It was here that Erik developed and taught the first-ever formal weather radar course for Air Force pilots.

Erik’s early interest with weather radar and severe convective weather was inspired by the work of industry legends Bob Buck, Jim Cook, J.T. Lee, Archie Trammell, and Dr. Fred Bates. Currently, his radar seminar is offered both domestically and abroad. It has been presented to professional pilots representing the flight departments of Fortune 500 companies, aviation associations, the military, and a major airline, as well as to dispatchers and meteorologists of aviation-related companies. He has been called on by manufacturers of airborne weather radar systems to consult in the design, operational employment, and evaluation of their systems. His radar- and weather-related articles have been published in the NBAA Journal of Business Aviation and in Business & Commercial Aviation. In addition, his input has been solicited for safety-orientated publications such as the Flight Safety Foundation’s magazine AeroSafety World.

Erik has over 10,000 hours of flying time and he is currently a line pilot for a major airline, logging more than 800 hours annually. RTI maintains active memberships in multiple different professional flying organizations and associations, including NBAA.

Eagle Creek to Attend and Exhibit at Phenom Jet Association's Conference April 12-15

ATTEND A PHENOMENAL EVENT

Phenomenal 2012 is your opportunity to join with other U.S. and international Phenom 100 and 300 owners and operators to learn about best practices for flying, maintaining, and upgrading your Phenom jet.

The Conference will feature two full days of information-packed seminars including Phenomenal Pilots and Prodigy Pros, sessions that were especially popular at the 2011 Conference. A panel of experienced Phenom pilots and instructors will discuss hands-on flying issues such as hot and high departures, low-visibility takeoffs, instrument departure procedures, and short-field operations. The Prodigy Pros panel will offer insights and tips on how to get the most out of the brains of the airplane — the Prodigy system.

Start your Phenomenal 2012 Conference early with a rejuvenating dose of learning from Phenom mentor pilot and instructor Neil Singer. Neil will conduct a one-day Phenom 100 ground school that blends systems information with relevant accident analysis; operational hazards; in-service failure reports; and critical performance considerations including contaminated runway performance, single-engine obstacle avoidance and obstacle departure procedures, and cruise planning. And this special training opportunity for companions of Phenom PICs: A two-hour ground school and two-hour flight in your Phenom during which you will learn how to control the aircraft in the event of pilot incapacitation, communicate with air traffic control, and make a safe landing.

Plan to arrive by Wednesday evening, April 11, to participate in some Phenomenal golfing. We’ll be off the links in time to tidy up for the Thursday evening Welcome Reception overlooking the Savannah waterfront. Following Friday’s seminar sessions we’ll convene for a gala dinner sponsored by Embraer Executive Jets. Saturday evening we’ll enjoy the Phenom Jet Association banquet, featuring a special presentation and a lively auction of valuable Phenom products and services. Sunday morning we’ll have a final breakfast and informal presentation.

Eagle Creek Delivers Second Grand Renaissance for Colombian Army

The second of two Grand Renaissance Twin Commanders has been delivered to the Colombian Army by Eagle Creek Aviation Services, which performed the work. The first
Colombian Grand Renaissance was delivered in August.

The two Grand Renaissance Twin Commanders—a Jetprop 980 (model 695) and, more recently, a 1000 (695A)—will serve dual roles in the Colombian Army as military executive transports and medevac aircraft.

Grand Renaissance Twin Commander

Along with the extensive Grand Renaissance upgrade, Eagle Creek completed service bulletin work, interior refurbishments, and managed the exterior repainting of the two aircraft. Both aircraft received an extensive avionics panel upgrade including dual Garmin G600 Flight Displays; Garmin touch-screen GTN750 and 650 Comm, Nav, and GPS units; Garmin GMA 35 Audio Panel; dual Garmin GTX 33 Transponders; Garmin GWX68 Weather Radar; and a Meggitt Avionics Engine Instruments Display System.

Eagle Creek devoted about 11 months and an estimated 14,000 man-hours to the two Grand Renaissance makeovers.

The Grand Renaissance process involves disassembly of the aircraft to its aluminum shell, followed by a comprehensive refurbishing of all systems and virtually all components using new or overhauled components. Optional Honeywell TPE 331-10T engines are fitted to Commander models powered by standard TPE331-5 series engines. The result is a certified aircraft of superlative quality, performance, safety, and long-term value that is backed by Twin Commander LLC’s worldwide service and parts support network.

Twin Commander Aircraft has an interactive website that shows the extent of the work scope that goes into a Grand Renaissance completion and the value that the finished airplane offers.

“We are extremely pleased with the results of the two Grand Renaissance completions for the Colombian Army,” said Matt Hagans, Eagle Creek’s CEO. “They look, fly, and perform like brand new aircraft. They will serve the Colombian Army well for years to come.”

“Congratulations to Eagle Creek on their superb performance in completing and delivering the two Grand Renaissance Twin Commanders,” commented Twin Commander Aircraft LLC President Matt Isley. “Eagle Creek has been a leader in Grand Renaissance completions for both individual owners and government and military operators. The Grand Renaissance appeals to the full spectrum of operators because of its overall value. That’s why we are seeing continued interest in the program both domestically and internationally.”

The delivery of the second Colombian airplane marks the fourth Grand Renaissance completion for Eagle Creek in less than three years. The Mexican Navy took delivery of a Grand Renaissance last year, and in early 2009 Eagle Creek delivered one to the County of Kern, California. The Colombian aircraft refurbishment project was conducted in cooperation with Asesorias Y Representacion Para Ingenieria S.A. (ASERPA) of Bogota, Colombia. ASERPA is a Colombian aviation advisory company and a provider of aviation parts, maintenance, repair, training, logistics, and other services for non-regular operators using helicopters and small aircraft, and for the army in Colombia. Eagle Creek said that ASERPA has been a valued partner and an important resource for engaging with the Colombian Army.

As a Phenom Service Center, Naples Jet Center will offer maintenance, service, upgrades and warranty work for owners and operators of the popular Embraer Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 aircraft. The company will also be able to support the EEC and ESP maintenance programs offered by Embraer and engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney.
