Twin Commander University – Entering Its Third Decade

UNIVERSITY INTO ITS THIRD DECADE
When Twin Commander owners and operators gather with representatives from Twin Commander Aircraft and its authorized service centers and channel partners in Scottsdale, Arizona, next April 25-27, it will mark the 11th time in more than 20 years that the Commander community has come together for what is known as the Twin Commander University.

First held in Aspen in 1990, the University features several days of educational seminars on owning, operating, maintaining, and upgrading Twin Commanders. It is a unique opportunity for Commander operators to learn from and exchange ideas and information with pilot training experts as well as Twin Commander technical, maintenance, and product and service providers.

“The University was founded on a simple principle – to learn something from each other about the airplanes we operate, maintain, and support, and also to enjoy a few days in the company of friends and colleagues in a nice setting,” commented Twin Commander Aircraft President Matt Isley.

The 2013 University will be held at the Scottsdale Marriott McDowell Mountains resort just north of the Scottsdale Airport. Executive Aircraft Maintenance, an authorized Twin Commander Service Center based at KSDL, will be the host service center for the University.

Registration fee for the University is $379, and $229 for a spouse or guest. However, early-bird registrants will pay just $199, and $149 for a spouse or guest. Plus, one lucky early-bird registrant will win an iPad Mini. The registration fee covers seminar attendance, the Thursday evening Welcome Reception, breakfast and lunch on Friday and Saturday, and Friday dinner and entertainment. The online registration process will be available after the first of the year at www.twincommander.com.

Erik Eliel, the acknowledged expert on the understanding and proper use of airborne weather radar, will kick off the long University weekend on Thursday, April 25, with his full six-hour program.

Eliel also will conduct a seminar session on departure procedures at airports with surrounding high terrain, and another on PIC authority, attitude, and awareness.

Other pilot-oriented sessions will be led by instructors from SimCom Training Centers, the exclusive provider of simulator-based Twin Commander pilot initial and recurrent training.

Helmuth Eggeling, Honeywell’s veteran, highly respected Pilot Advisor, will be fielding questions on the finer points of operating the powerful, fuel-efficient TPE331 engine.

Just as at a traditional institution of higher learning, there is more to the Twin Commander University than going to class. It’s a unique opportunity for operators from around the world to enjoy the company of people with a similar passion. University social events will include a welcome reception, golf outing, and a visit to a Phoenix-area aviation museum.
