Eagle Creek and Garmin team up to provide Touchscreen Avionics to Colombian Army

INDIANAPOLIS, IN—Eagle Creek Aviation Services, Inc., Garmin dealer and full-service provider of aircraft sales, service and refurbishment, announced that it is installing the new Garmin GTN™ 750 and GTN 650 touchscreen avionics in two Turbine Commanders operated by the Colombian Government as part of full Grand Renaissance Commander Refurbishments now underway by Eagle Creek.

The exciting new GTN 750 and GTN 650 were announced in conjunction with the annual Aircraft Electronics Association Convention being held in Reno, NV. The GTN 750/650 are an integral part of the Garmin-powered avionics suite installations on the two Colombian government-owned Commanders now undergoing full multi-million dollar Grand Renaissance refurbishment at Eagle Creek’s Indianapolis facility.

Garmin’s GTN series features new capabilities for GPS/NAV/COM systems like touchscreen operation, graphical flight planning with victor airways and high-altitude jet routes, remote transponder control, remote audio control (750 series only), SafeTaxi® and electronic chart capabilities (750 series only).

In addition to the installation of the GTN 750 and GTN 650, each of the aircraft will feature Garmin-based panels with dual Garmin G600 flight displays; the Garmin GMA™ 35 remote audio processor; Garmin GTX 33 remote transponder and the popular Garmin GWX™ 68 weather radar system.

“The ability to use touchscreen technology to operate a remote mounted transponder and audio processor is a great advantage of the GTN 750,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s vice president of marketing. “It results in a cleaner, uncluttered panel well suited to the Twin Commander.”

“We are pleased to partner with Garmin in providing this exciting new technology to our mutual clients,” said Matt Hagans, Eagle Creek’s CEO. “The Garmin GNS 530 / 430 were game changing innovations for our industry, with something like 110,000 units produced so far. The new touchscreen GTN 750 / 650 will be the same. Watching the new GTN units work their magic, you can really appreciate the great new features, processor speed enhancement as well as the improved screen resolution. Watching the Pan and Zoom feature now is unbelievable and the touchscreen design and layout is so intuitive.”

The Colombian Army Aviation Brigade operates the Turbine Commanders in a multi-purpose role including aerial surveillance and VIP transport. The Garmin avionics upgrades are an important component in the factory authorized Commander Grand Renaissance refurbishment, a literal tip-to-tail rebuild process of the airframe.
